As April nears its end, the Plymouth Pilgrims continue to leave their mark across the Northern Lakes Conference and beyond. With multiple teams picking up key victories and athletes setting personal and team-best marks, it’s clear the Pilgrims are peaking at the right time. ⸻ Track & Field: Relay Records and Conference Wins Lead the Way The Lady Pilgrims track team traveled to Wawasee this week and delivered a convincing double win, defeating Wawasee 82-5 and Mishawaka 73-59 in a showcase of elite depth and balance across events. The highlight came in the hurdles, where Jersey Hunter, Alexis Doll, and Amyra Benchaar swept the top three in the 100m, while Eva Macey, Benchaar, and Nevaeh Arnold repeated the feat in the 300m hurdles. The team also claimed 1st in the 4x800m relay (Miller, Jones, Everett, Gurtner) and closed the meet with another win in the 4x400m relay. On the field side, Joy Everett soared to victory in the high jump, with Sue Everett and Ella Morrison following close behind. Ava Lloyd claimed top honors in shot put, while Marissa Kmiatek captured 1st in discus, backed by strong efforts from Lexie Myers and Cordelia Cofer. The boys’ team also had a big week, securing a signature NLC win over Goshen, 76-56. Cole Figg continued to dominate both hurdles races, while Carter Bush sprinted his way to 1st in both the 100m and 200m. Hunter Shipley won the 400m and helped pace relay success, with distance points provided by Freddy Kallenberg, Ethan Podlesak, and Aidan Faulstich. In the field, Kylen Ellery and Caz Hundt were key contributors in jumping events, while Leo Sickmiller and CJ DeLee anchored the throws. ⸻ Softball: Offensive Outbursts and NLC Grit Define the Week The Lady Pilgrims softball squad made a loud statement in conference play this week, picking up two critical NLC victories and extending their win total behind clutch hitting and lockdown pitching. Monday night’s 6-3 win over Goshen was highlighted by Kyndall Marcum’s pair of doubles and a strong six-inning outing by Gracie Patrick, who struck out four and didn’t walk a batter. Aubrey Ferguson earned the save and played stellar defense at first base with nine putouts. On Wednesday, the offense exploded in an 18-5 rout at Wawasee, fueled by Patrick’s three doubles, Marcum’s 4 RBIs, and Gracie Kruyer’s two-hit, two-RBI night. The team now sits in a competitive position in the NLC standings and continues to show growth in every phase of the game. ⸻ Baseball: Pilgrims Swing Big in Rivalry and Conference Play After a rain-soaked start to the weekend, the Pilgrims baseball teams found their groove late in the week. The JV squad delivered a 12-3 win at Warsaw, with Owen Walleske, Cruz Rosas, and Tucker Sarver combining for eight RBIs. Sarver also pitched a complete game, striking out six and surrendering just two earned runs. The Varsity Pilgrims fell 10-2 to the Tigers but rebounded midweek with a huge 7-1 win over Wawasee. Drake Feece blasted two home runs and drove in four, while Parker Wolfe collected three hits. On the mound, Aidan Landis earned the win, tossing four shutout innings. Saturday’s twin bill against LaPorte proved tough, as both JV and Varsity fell to a talented Slicers program. The varsity bounced back with a conference win at Goshen, 8-4, powered by Ethan Hall’s three-hit, three-RBI night and first home run of the season, along with a Feece home run of his own. The C-Team saw action at Concord, where they dropped a 9-4 decision despite strong days from Xavier Rouch, Kaden Rooney, and Mason Tillman. The team continues to gain valuable reps as they look to build toward a strong finish. ⸻ Golf: JV Wins Home Invite, Varsity Unbeaten in Duals The Plymouth golf program had another standout week on the links. The JV Pilgrims hosted their home invitational Saturday, and despite cold, windy conditions, they claimed 1st place with a team score of 350. Alex Pons shot 81 (2nd overall), with Caleb Harland finishing 5th with an 84. A second Plymouth JV team placed 7th, led by Hudson Holm’s 89. On Monday, the varsity hosted Chesterton and LaPorte in a three-way match, emerging victorious with a 160 team score, improving to 9-0 in dual meets. Dan Nguyen led the way with a low round of 35, while Mac Holm and Bryce Busse contributed with scores of 39 and 42, respectively. Thursday’s six-team mini-invite at Pretty Lake saw the Pilgrims sweep the field with a stellar 153, paced again by Nguyen’s 36, followed by Holm and Ben Nguyen (38s). ⸻ Tennis: Varsity Earns Conference Sweep, JV Places at Home Invite The Lady Pilgrims tennis team continues to battle through a competitive slate. After a 1-4 loss at Chesterton, Plymouth regrouped and delivered a dominant 5-0 sweep of Concord in NLC action. Singles players Tynley Gantz, Sophia Cantero, and Mia Hartley all won in straight sets, while both doubles teams—Christy/Jackson and Langfeldt/Sheely—held strong under pressure. Over the weekend, the JV team hosted their home invitational and placed 3rd overall, going 2-1 across all five positions. Wins came against Goshen, Bremen, Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian, Kokomo, and Portage, showing the future of the program is strong. ⸻ Up Next for the Pilgrims With NLC standings tightening and postseason competition fast approaching, every practice, every race, and every match counts. From track relays to tee boxes and walk-offs to break points, the Pilgrims continue to build momentum and showcase their championship character.
